Our core mission is to expand the global economy’s reach, and we are undertaking a significant amount of work to achieve this. This presents an unparalleled chance to make the global economy accessible to everyone while undertaking the most impactful work of your career.
About the Team
The Product Legal team at Stripe is entrusted with overseeing the legal and regulatory aspects involved in the design, development, and deployment of our products and services. We tackle some of the most challenging technical, commercial, and regulatory issues. We are actively seeking a skilled Product Lawyer to join our dedicated team. In this capacity, you will serve as a key advisor to Stripe’s product, engineering, and partnerships departments, engaging with a wide array of matters that intersect financial services, business processes, and cutting-edge technology.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong passion for Stripe’s mission of fostering business growth and success. We are looking for an individual who is a collaborative team player, willing to contribute to tasks of any scope. Stripe operates within a complex and interconnected global environment of legal, regulatory, and financial partnerships.
What You’ll Do
- Provide legal counsel to Stripe’s product and engineering teams on various issues related to Stripe’s software solutions, including but not limited to Stripe Revenue Suite, Stripe Profiles, and Stripe Atlas.
- Engage in close collaboration with cross-functional teams across Stripe, including engineering, partnerships, privacy, and security departments, to deliver pragmatic and actionable legal advice to your clients throughout the product development lifecycle – from initial concept to market launch.
- Draft, review, and update essential internal and external-facing foundational documents that govern Stripe’s products and service offerings.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to consumer financial data access, with support from Stripe’s extensive team of legal subject matter experts. Analyze legal statutes, regulatory updates, and industry trends to proactively advise clients on potential impacts on product development.
- Act as a proactive business partner to your assigned product teams, cultivating trusted advisor relationships and offering key legal and strategic business insights to shape Stripe’s evolving product roadmap and overall strategy.
Who You Are
We are seeking candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for consideration. If you meet these requirements, we encourage you to apply. Preferred qualifications are considered a bonus and not mandatory.
Minimum Requirements:
- Possess 5+ years of demonstrated experience, either as a qualified lawyer in a reputable law firm or within an in-house legal team, specifically working with technology companies. Experience should focus on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology sector, ideally including the law applicable to cloud-based API service providers.
- Exhibit proficiency in and a genuine passion for working with technology. Demonstrate the ability to quickly grasp complex operational and business models, as well as multiple product use cases.
- Be a self-starter and self-learner, thriving in a fast-paced environment. You should be adept at managing multiple work streams and priorities simultaneously and efficiently.
- Possess an ownership mentality, comfortable dealing with ambiguity, and take pride in exercising excellent judgment and making informed decisions even with limited information.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective cross-functional collaboration with a sense of urgency, while maintaining a highly collaborative and positive demeanor.
- Exhibit excellent project management and organizational skills to effectively manage shifting priorities and thrive under tight deadlines.
- Hold a background in technology law.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate strategic thinking capabilities that enable business partners to make decisions grounded in a practical application of the law, the technology, and the business objectives.
Working Remotely at Stripe:
A remote location is defined as being situated 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from any of our physical offices. While you are welcome to visit our offices for team meetings, business gatherings, or events, the expectation is that you will primarily work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not provide financial assistance for relocation to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that align with the location where you currently reside or intend to live.
