The credit risk operations team is integral to maintaining a robust financial ecosystem for businesses globally. This team significantly influences the company’s financial health and growth trajectory by supporting both new and established businesses. Our responsibilities include conducting thorough credit risk assessments, underwriting for small to mid-sized users, and devising mitigation strategies that allow Stripe to strategically manage risk for its users.

In this critical leadership role, you will be responsible for managing and developing a team of Credit Risk Operations Associates. Your focus will be on commercial credit underwriting and risk mitigation. The Team Lead will foster team engagement through effective feedback, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy. This includes setting team objectives, utilizing performance metrics for efficient measurement and guidance, and ensuring the team operates at its highest potential. Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute commercial credit underwriting frameworks enabling the team to evaluate business models and financial statements of diverse clients, from venture-backed startups to established corporations.
  • Guide the team in identifying commercial credit risks and formulating effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Drive strong operational delivery and continuous process improvement to uphold credit risk tolerance, balancing credit loss with customer experience.
  • Build and maintain a positive team culture, ensuring team members are engaged, effective, and progressing in their careers.
  • Establish clear goals and direction, providing consistent performance feedback to team members.
  • Employ a data-driven approach to performance analysis and decision-making.
  • Champion and instill Stripe’s core values, embodying the company’s user-centric philosophy and culture of transparency, empathy, inclusion, and empowerment.
  • Manage operational performance to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Oversee capacity planning and scheduling to guarantee adequate team coverage.
  • Facilitate the resolution of roadblocks and emerging issues.
  • Serve as a primary point of escalation for complex credit underwriting reviews.

Who We Are Looking For:

We seek candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and are eager to contribute to Stripe’s success. While preferred qualifications are advantageous, they are not mandatory.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, financial statement analysis, risk modeling, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform business and financial data into a cohesive narrative that outlines potential credit risks and proposes dynamic mitigation strategies.
  • At least 2 years of direct people management experience.
  • Essential leadership skills, strong analytical capabilities, and excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with globally distributed internal stakeholders.
  • A strong operational background, including experience with new process launches and service delivery.
  • Proficiency and credibility in performing the core work of a user-facing team, maintaining a high standard of quality, and a willingness to lead by example.
  • A genuine passion for process improvement and innovation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience in payments, e-commerce, or fintech, particularly in mitigating credit risk.
  • Experience in building and scaling new teams.

In-Office Expectations:

Employees assigned to offices are generally expected to spend at least 50% of their time each month in their local office or interacting with users. This expectation may vary based on the specific role, team, and location. Some roles or teams may have higher in-office attendance requirements to effectively support users and workflows, which will be communicated by the hiring manager. This hybrid approach balances the advantages of in-person collaboration and learning with the benefits of flexibility.

Pay and Benefits:

Stripe is committed to pay transparency and is working towards providing pay ranges globally. Specific compensation details will be discussed during the hiring process.

We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn’t perfectly align with every qualification listed. Your unique skills and passion are highly valued and can set you apart.
