Job Overview

About Stripe

Stripe is a global financial infrastructure platform that empowers millions of businesses, from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups, to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, providing an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach and do the most important work of your career.

About the Strategic Supportability Operations (SSO) Team

The SSO team is a critical part of Risk Operations and User Policy Operations. We are dedicated to protecting and advancing Stripe’s business, brand, and mission. Our focus is on deploying industry-leading supportability solutions that build user and partner trust in Stripe, while simultaneously enabling progressive and sustainable business growth. Unlike other Risk Operations teams, SSO tackles the most complex, high-stakes, and ambiguous user business cases. These cases demand deep investigation, custom risk analysis, and creative problem-solving, navigating the intricate intersection of user experience, compliance, financial partner requirements, and Stripe’s growth ambitions.

What You Will Do

As a Risk Operations Analyst on the SSO team, your primary responsibility will be to investigate and assess complex, gray-area user business cases. This requires applying deep risk judgment to make sound, non-binary decisions. You will be expected to go beyond standard procedures, thoroughly understand the full risk profile of users, develop tailored recommendations, and collaborate effectively across internal teams to drive cohesive and well-reasoned decisions. A significant part of the role involves identifying patterns across individual cases to drive improvements in our processes, policies, and detection systems at scale. This bridges tactical case work with strategic, systemic impact across the entire Risk Operations function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate complex, high-risk, and gray-area user business cases, applying deep risk knowledge to make sound, non-binary judgments.
  • Navigate ambiguity confidently, developing custom, evidence-based solutions where standard frameworks do not fully apply.
  • Identify and escalate systemic trends observed across cases, proposing scalable solutions to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively across Risk Operations, User Support, Risk Partnerships, Legal, Compliance, and Product teams to develop holistic risk mitigation strategies.
  • Engage directly with users, handling both positive and sensitive conversations with a ‘Users First’ mindset while balancing regulatory and financial partner requirements.
  • Communicate complex risk findings clearly and concisely to internal partners, financial partners, and Stripe leadership.
  • Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of SSO processes, decision frameworks, and tooling.
  • Build and maintain comprehensive documentation, procedures, and playbooks to support team scalability and knowledge management.
  • Identify gaps in current systems, policies, and strategies, recommending enhancements through a collaborative approach with stakeholders.

Who You Are (Minimum Requirements)

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in risk management, compliance, fraud, financial operations, or a closely related field within a fast-moving environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate gray-area and non-binary decision-making in complex risk environments.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize multiple data sources into a coherent risk narrative.
  • Proven experience collaborating cross-functionally on complex problems and driving alignment across teams with competing priorities.
  • Ability to engage directly with users, including in difficult or sensitive conversations, with empathy, clarity, and professionalism.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate complex risk findings to varied audiences.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and fast-paced, constantly evolving environments.
  • Track record of identifying systemic problems from individual case patterns and driving process improvements.
  • Deep empathy for entrepreneurs and businesses, and genuine motivation to solve problems that empower them.
  • The ability and desire to challenge the status quo as a creative thinker who considers problems from a user perspective while remaining pragmatic and solutions-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with compliance or financial partnership relationship management.
  • Experience with risk assessment and mitigation strategies in a fintech or payments environment.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and AI tools to quantify risk and inform decisions.
  • Background in regulatory compliance within financial services.
  • Experience developing scalable operational frameworks or playbooks in an ambiguous, high-stakes environment.
  • Knowledge of payment processing systems and associated risks.

Working Remotely at Stripe

A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.

Pay and Benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $89,000 – $133,400. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
