Job Overview

About the Role

The Global Tax Team at Reddit is seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Indirect Tax Manager to play a pivotal role in establishing and scaling the company’s global indirect tax operations. As Reddit continues its growth trajectory as a public entity and expands its diverse product and commercial offerings, this individual will be instrumental in managing critical aspects of both US and international indirect tax functions. This includes comprehensive oversight of US Sales & Use tax and Value Added Tax (VAT)/Goods and Services Tax (GST) across various jurisdictions.

This position requires a proactive approach to partnering with business units, translating intricate tax regulations into actionable business decisions, robust systems, and efficient, scalable processes. In alignment with Reddit’s core values, the ideal candidate will embody an open mindset, exercise sound judgment, and prioritize a human-centric approach in all professional interactions.

The Global Indirect Tax Manager will report directly to the International Tax Senior Manager, contributing significantly to the team’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Global Indirect Tax Management: Oversee and manage key components of Reddit’s worldwide indirect tax function, encompassing both Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) revenue streams. This includes US Sales & Use tax, VAT/GST, Digital Services Taxes (DSTs), and other transactional taxes.
  • Compliance and Registration: Lead the management of indirect tax registrations, ensure timely and accurate return compliance, oversee payments, handle exemption documentation, conduct taxability determinations, and implement related controls across a multitude of international jurisdictions.
  • Process and System Ownership: Take ownership of and drive improvements in indirect tax processes and systems. This involves refining product and taxability mapping, managing exemptions, conducting transaction testing, optimizing system integrations, ensuring data validation, and resolving any identified issues.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the primary indirect tax liaison for new product launches, strategic initiatives, commercial arrangements, modifications to billing systems, and expansion into new geographic markets.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay abreast of and implement evolving requirements related to e-invoicing, digital reporting, and real-time reporting mandates globally.
  • Financial Operations: Execute indirect tax account reconciliations, manage accruals, prepare journal entries, participate in month-end close activities, and maintain internal controls related to indirect tax.
  • Contractual Advisory: Provide expert advice on the indirect tax implications within customer and vendor agreements, advise on invoicing requirements, and identify available exemptions.
  • Audit Management: Proactively manage indirect tax audits, respond to notices, and ensure timely and accurate disclosures.
  • Legislative Analysis: Continuously monitor legislative and regulatory developments in indirect taxation and assess their potential impact on Reddit’s operations and tax strategy.
  • Process Optimization: Develop and implement scalable processes, automation solutions, key performance metrics, and comprehensive documentation to enhance data quality, minimize manual intervention, and strengthen operational controls.
  • Team Contribution: Contribute to the broader objectives of the Global Tax Team and participate in ad hoc projects, demonstrating flexibility to support evolving business needs beyond core indirect tax responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 6 years of dedicated indirect tax experience, gained either within public accounting firms or multinational corporate tax departments. Significant hands-on operational experience is essential.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven technical and operational experience with both US domestic indirect taxes (e.g., Sales & Use tax) and international indirect taxes (e.g., VAT/GST), covering both B2B and B2C transaction types.
  • Research Skills: Demonstrated experience in researching product and service taxability, understanding registration and nexus obligations, analyzing place-of-supply rules, interpreting invoicing requirements, and identifying applicable exemptions.
  • Global Compliance: Experience supporting indirect tax compliance, accounting, audit defense, and control frameworks across multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Process Acumen: Ability to comprehend end-to-end transaction flows and effectively translate complex tax requirements into practical processes, define necessary data requirements, and configure relevant system settings.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills and experience supporting system implementations, upgrades, or other significant cross-functional initiatives.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to articulate complex tax concepts clearly and concisely to non-tax professionals and stakeholders.
  • Autonomy: Capacity to work independently, effectively manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment in a dynamic and rapidly evolving business environment.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, inherent curiosity, and a commitment to developing sustainable, long-term solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tax Engine Experience: Direct experience with Vertex is highly preferred, particularly in areas such as rule configuration, product mapping, transaction testing, system integrations, data validation, reconciliations, and troubleshooting production issues. Experience with other enterprise-level indirect tax engines will also be considered.
  • Industry Specialization: Prior experience addressing indirect tax issues specific to technology, digital media, advertising, subscription services, Software as a Service (SaaS), or other high-volume transactional business models.
  • Digital Reporting Implementation: Experience in implementing e-invoicing, digital reporting, or real-time reporting solutions.
  • System Integration: Familiarity working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, billing platforms, procurement systems, and financial reporting tools. Experience analyzing large transactional datasets is also valuable.
  • Automation Tools: Proficiency with data analysis and automation tools such as Alteryx or SQL.
  • Professional Certifications: Possession of a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CMI (Certified Member of the Institute), MST (Master of Science in Taxation), JD (Juris Doctor), LLM (Master of Laws), or a comparable professional qualification.
  • Background Mix: A combination of experience in public accounting and in-house corporate tax roles.
