Job Overview

About the Role

Airbnb is seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer with deep, current, hands-on expertise in both native iOS (Swift, UIKit/SwiftUI) and native Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose). This is a unique opportunity to operate as a true dual-platform native engineer, owning features end-to-end across both the iOS and Android applications. You will be instrumental in making architectural decisions that ensure coherence and consistency across both platforms, contributing significantly to the core user experience for millions of hosts and guests worldwide.

The Community You Will Join

You will be part of the Guest & Host Technology team, which is dedicated to building the seamless, end-to-end experience that connects people globally. This team works natively on both iOS and Android, ensuring a high-quality, performant, and coherent experience for users regardless of their device. The team values engineers who can fluidly navigate and contribute to both platforms.

What You Will Do

  • Design and ship features across our iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) native codebases, often working on the same initiative deployed in parallel on both platforms.
  • Partner closely with design and product teams to translate product specifications into two distinct, platform-idiomatic implementations, rather than simply porting one platform’s UI to the other.
  • Uphold and enforce architecture, performance, and app-size standards that apply equally to both native platforms.
  • Contribute to discussions and decisions regarding shared client contracts, such as GraphQL clients, logging, and testing frameworks, ensuring the platforms do not drift apart.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, helping them ramp up on dual-platform development through pairing and code reviews.
  • Participate actively in technical reviews and architecture discussions, providing judgment and insights that span both platforms.

Your Expertise

  • Minimum of 6 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Deep, current, hands-on expertise in both native iOS (Swift, UIKit/SwiftUI) and native Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose). Legacy exposure to one platform and active work on the other is not sufficient; true dual-platform fluency is required.
  • A proven track record of independently shipping medium-to-large complexity features on either platform without significant ramp-up time.
  • Ability to read, debug, and reason about code on the other platform, even if your depth is greater on one.
  • Solid, well-reasoned opinions on mobile architecture, backed by experience in keeping two independent native codebases coherent at scale.
  • Comfort and experience owning a feature end-to-end, navigating ambiguity, and knowing when to escalate decisions versus making them independently.
  • Experience collaborating closely with design and product teams to translate ambiguous requirements into concrete, platform-appropriate implementations.
  • A pragmatic understanding of cross-platform tooling, recognizing why a fully native approach is critical for Airbnb’s platform strategy, and a commitment to doing the harder, more durable native work.

Location and Work Environment

This position is designated as US – Remote Eligible. While the role is remote, candidates must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required, as agreed upon with your manager. Please refer to the careers page for an up-to-date list of excluded states, as this list is subject to change.

Our Commitment to Inclusion & Belonging

Airbnb is deeply committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We believe that a wide range of perspectives fuels innovation and engagement. All qualified individuals, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, sex, marital status, ancestry, disability, veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic, are encouraged to apply. We are also dedicated to providing a disability-inclusive application and interview process and offer reasonable accommodations upon request.

Compensation and Benefits

The actual base pay for this role will depend on various factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change. This role may also be eligible for additional compensation such as a bonus, equity, and benefits, including Employee Travel Credits.
