As the Associate Director, Data Engineering, you will be a hands-on leader responsible for enabling Parexel’s data movement within the Enterprise Data Lake and delivering standardized operational data products across clinical, safety, and corporate domains. You will also contribute to data lake strategy, engineering, and operations, as well as enterprise integration capabilities and the data preparation required to power analytics, AI enablement, and sponsor data delivery. You will partner with Data and Technology, the Data and Analytics CoE, and the business to ensure trusted, high-quality, and well-governed data, consistent definitions, and reliable data movement across the enterprise.

Key Areas of Impact and Accountability

  • Data Lake Engineering: Contribute to the strategy, design, and roadmap for the lake house, based on a medallion architecture that supports reporting and analytics aligned to operational, clinical, financial, and safety needs. Lead engineering activities across data ingestion, transformation, storage, and optimization within the Enterprise Data Lake.
  • Delivery Excellence: Serve as a subject matter expert in data delivery, aligning data products and services with organizational priorities. Lead cross-functional prioritization and delivery processes to ensure cohesive, timely outcomes.
  • Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead global data engineering teams. Champion capability development in cloud engineering, Databricks, CI/CD, SQL, and Python. Promote a culture of innovation, operational rigor, and customer-focused delivery.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Partner with Data and Technology, the Data and Analytics CoE, and the business to ensure trusted, high-quality, and well-governed data, consistent definitions, and reliable data movement across the enterprise.

  • Extensive experience implementing and supporting enterprise data initiatives on cloud platforms.
  • Strong and vast IT experience developing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale enterprise integration services and platforms.
  • Advanced level experience leading teams in data delivery management and execution, including major projects in data management, data integration, and analytics.
  • Experience with GxP regulations in a life sciences environment is highly desirable.
  • Clinical IT experience is preferred.
  • Strong in-depth leadership or line management experience, including managing technical personnel across multiple project lifecycle phases.

Required Skills

  • Advanced level in SQL querying and query tuning (Mandatory).
  • Demonstrated expertise in data and cloud platforms, particularly Azure Databricks.
  • Significant experience with medallion architecture-based data lake implementations.
  • Proficiency in modern data management, data-sharing tools, and development frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of Power BI is highly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of application architectures and enterprise application ecosystems.
