Key Responsibilities

  • Checks instrument performance daily and performs routine upkeep of open access LC-MS instruments.
  • Responds to end-user repair calls for LC-MS instrumentation and troubleshoots/repairs simple issues such as leaks or clogs.
  • Submits and coordinates repair tickets with manufacturers for complex instrument issues.
  • Coordinates cryogen orders and performs weekly liquid nitrogen fills for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments.
  • Performs daily sample clean-up on the open-access NMR systems.
  • Cleans electrospray ionization (ESI) process sources and runs calibration standards monthly.
  • Assists with preparation of samples and set up of data acquisition for analysis by liquid chromatography (LC), LC-MS, and Circular Dichroism (CD) Spectroscopy.
  • Documents LC-MS performance, system uptime, and maintenance history.
  • Assists with purity analysis of investigational compounds by LC.
  • Maintains accurate documentation, laboratory notebooks, and electronic records.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • For Principal Scientist I: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field with 3-5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 1-2 years of experience.
  • For Principal Scientist II: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field with 7+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience, or a PhD with 1+ year of experience.
  • Hands-on experience and strong technical knowledge in High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and LC-MS is required.
  • Ability to work onsite full-time in South San Francisco, CA.
  • Must have permanent authorization to work in the US without sponsorship.
