What You Will Be Doing: As a Senior Commercial Counsel, you will play a crucial leadership role, heading a team of three talented counsel and contracts professionals. Your responsibilities will be multifaceted and critical to the company’s success:

• Contract Negotiation and Structuring: You will lead the negotiation and structuring of a wide array of commercial contracts. This includes complex agreements such as channel agreements, cloud/SaaS and software subscription contracts, procurement agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and associated professional services agreements. Your scope will extend across India, the broader APJ region, and potentially beyond.
• Regional Legal Support: Provide comprehensive legal support for APJ Compliance, Employment, Litigation, and Investigation matters, ensuring adherence to local laws and company policies.
• Global Collaboration: Engage closely with the wider global Legal Department and other key stakeholders across Elastic, fostering strong working relationships and ensuring alignment on legal strategies.
• Project Support: Assist APJ & Global Legal team members on ad hoc projects as needed, demonstrating versatility and a willingness to contribute wherever required.
• Process Improvement: Play a key role in building and strengthening workflow processes between the Legal Department and other departments within Elastic. This initiative is vital for enabling efficient deal-making and supporting compliance objectives, with a strong emphasis on leveraging AI tools and automation opportunities to enhance productivity and effectiveness.

What You Bring: We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications and attributes:

• Legal Qualification: Must possess legal authority to practice law in India.
• Experience: A minimum of 8 years of proven experience, either in-house or within a law firm, or a combination thereof, with a strong track record in the drafting and negotiation of technology contracts.
• Regional Expertise: Experience with India and APJ compliance, employment, litigation, and investigations is essential, forming approximately 10-15% of your work.
• Strategic Acumen: The ability to synthesize complex directions while adeptly balancing legal risks with overarching business strategy.
• Personal Attributes: A self-starting, proactive, and driven individual who is adaptable and can, with poise and grit, effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects. You should be capable of recalibrating advice in view of shifting priorities, evolving legal developments, and varying risk tolerances.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• A proven track record of consistently delivering outstanding, thoughtful, and user-experience-focused results.
• Prior experience representing high-growth companies is strongly preferred.
