Stripe is looking for an exceptional transactional lawyer to join our commercial legal team supporting our fast-growing business in the Americas (AMER). As a Commercial Counsel for Sales, you will lead negotiations for complex and strategic agreements, advise on commercial and legal issues, and help build out Stripe’s commercial legal infrastructure to scale with our exponential growth.
Key Responsibilities and Impact
- Support the AMER Sales team, leading negotiations for complex and strategic agreements.
- Advise on a wide range of commercial and legal issues, including the launch of new products to Stripe users and supporting international expansions.
- Work closely with Product Legal to bring new products and features to market.
- Be an integral part of the build-out of Stripe’s commercial legal infrastructure so that we can scale and operate efficiently at pace with Stripe’s growth. This includes drafting and maintaining Stripe’s agreements and playbooks, leading and contributing to projects to improve internal processes, and leveraging AI tooling to optimize how we work.
- Partner with teams across Stripe globally, including sales, operations, product, tax, risk groups, and others.
- Help the entire team drive scaled support and efficiency, working collaboratively in a global team to maximize the overall impact of the Commercial Legal team.
- Develop and deliver training and other resources to help the Sales team sell our products.
- Be a point of escalation for outside counsel.
Compensation, Benefits, and Work Environment
The annual US base salary range for this role is $178,200 – $267,200. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (OTE) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.

Requirements & Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience in-house or in a technology practice group in a top law firm.
- Qualified with good standing membership in at least one US state bar with a JD degree or foreign equivalent.
- Intellectually curious and a creative problem solver.
- A self-starter with a bias for action and a strong sense of ownership.
- A clear and concise communicator (in written and verbal forms), who can distill key risks and explain complex, nuanced issues in plain terms.
- A natural collaborator, able to guide cross-functional teams and drive to a win-win solution.
- Familiar with the range of legal issues and commercial risks that arise in connection with hosted data and technology services.
- A team player who is willing to do what it takes to contribute to the collective success.
