Preparation Strategy

Understanding the AVNL Syllabus & Exam Structure

To successfully clear the Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) Recruitment 2026, candidates must thoroughly understand the dual-part structure of the Computer Based Test (CBT). The exam is divided into Part A (General Paper) and Part B (Technical/Trade Paper), each carrying 50 marks. Since there is no negative marking, accuracy combined with speed is the key to scoring high. Part A tests foundational skills in General Awareness, English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, and Computer Aptitude. For Junior Technician candidates, Part A is set at a 10th-standard difficulty level, making it highly scoring if basic concepts are clear. For Executive posts, the level is elevated to Graduate standard, requiring a deeper analytical approach.

Syllabus Breakdown for Part A & Part B

Candidates should systematically divide their study schedule to cover both parts of the exam:

  • General Awareness: Focus on current affairs of the last 6 to 8 months, Indian defense updates, basic science, history, geography, and Indian polity.
  • General English: Practice basic grammar rules, active/passive voice, direct/indirect speech, synonyms, antonyms, and reading comprehension.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Master core arithmetic topics such as percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, and speed-distance-time.
  • Reasoning Ability: Solve puzzles, coding-decoding, blood relations, syllogisms, and non-verbal reasoning questions to build logical speed.
  • Computer Aptitude: Learn basic computer operations, MS Office shortcuts, internet protocols, and basic hardware/software concepts.
  • Part B (Technical/Trade): This is the core differentiator. Junior Technicians must revise their entire NCVT trade syllabus (e.g., Fitter, Electrician, Machinist). Executive candidates must focus on core engineering concepts (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics) or specialized professional subjects (HR, Finance, CS) depending on the post applied for.

Strategic Preparation Tips for AVNL CBT 2026

A structured preparation strategy can significantly boost your chances of selection. Here are some expert tips to follow:

  • Create a Balanced Study Plan: Allocate 40% of your daily study time to Part A and 60% to Part B. Technical knowledge is crucial, but scoring well in the general paper will give you a competitive edge.
  • Solve Previous Year Papers & Mock Tests: Regularly practice mock tests to improve your time management. Since you have 120 minutes for 100 questions, aim to complete the general section quickly to save time for complex technical questions.
  • Focus on NCVT/Core Engineering Textbooks: For Part B, rely on standard textbooks and NCVT-approved study materials. Clear your fundamental concepts rather than just memorizing formulas.
  • Revise Regularly: Make short notes of important formulas, trade-specific safety rules, and general knowledge facts. Weekly revision is essential to retain information.
  • Prepare for the Next Stages: Junior Technicians should keep their practical trade skills sharp for the qualifying Trade Test. Executive candidates should stay updated on industry trends and practice mock interviews to build confidence for the 50-mark personal interview.
