As a Data Scientist working on Causal Inference in Community Support, you will collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and operation agents to enable personalized, fair, and exceptional experiences for guests and hosts using advanced causal inference analysis.

Key Responsibilities & Scope of Work

  • Design Experiments & Quasi-Experiments: Measure the causal impact of CS product launches and drive data-informed launch decisions across the platform.
  • Build Causal ML Models: Develop and deploy predictive and causal machine learning models to optimize budget allocations (e.g., Make Goods) and maximize business impact.
  • Conduct Long-Term Impact Analysis: Quantify the long-term effects of product changes and uncover heterogeneous treatment effects across user segments.
  • Deliver Strategic Insights: Provide clear trade-off analyses on quality, cost, and user experience to empower leadership decision-making.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside Product, Design, Engineering, Operations, and Analytics teams to scale data science capabilities within your domain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement causal inference frameworks and statistical models to measure the impact of interventions.
  • Build, evaluate, and iterate on causal ML models powering high-stakes business decisions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of industry experience in a quantitative analysis role with a Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, etc.), OR a PhD in relevant fields.
  • Strong knowledge of causal inference methods and experimental design.
  • Strong knowledge of Bayesian modeling and statistical inference.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying statistical or ML models in production environments.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming using Python or R, alongside complex SQL database querying.
  • Proven capability to translate complex technical findings into compelling narratives for broad audiences.
  • Residency in an eligible US state where Airbnb maintains a registered legal entity (Alaska, Mississippi, and North Dakota are currently excluded).
