Understanding the IOCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026
The IndianOil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Marketing Division, Northern Region, has announced a significant recruitment drive for 2026, offering 433 apprenticeship positions across various disciplines. This opportunity is ideal for candidates seeking to gain valuable experience in a leading Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) in India. The recruitment covers roles such as Technician Apprentice, Graduate Apprentice, and Trade Apprentice (including ITI and Data Entry Operator). Unlike traditional recruitment processes, IOCL’s apprenticeship program emphasizes merit-based selection, eliminating the need for written examinations or interviews. This makes it crucial for aspirants to focus on their academic performance and ensure they meet all eligibility criteria.
Eligibility Criteria: A Detailed Look
The eligibility for IOCL apprentice posts is strictly defined by discipline code. Aspirants must carefully review the requirements for the specific post they intend to apply for. Generally, the qualifications range from Matriculation (Class X) with a relevant ITI trade certificate to a 3-year Diploma in Engineering or a full-time Graduate degree in any discipline. Key points to note include:
- Regular Full-Time Course: Qualifications must be acquired through a regular, full-time course from a recognized University/Institute. Part-time, correspondence, or distance learning qualifications are not accepted.
- Minimum Aggregate Percentage: For Technician and Graduate Apprentice roles, a minimum of 50% aggregate marks is required for General/EWS/OBC-NCL candidates, and 45% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates. For Trade Apprentice (ITI) roles, pass marks are sufficient.
- Age Limit: The age criteria as of August 31, 2026, are a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 24 years for the General category. Age relaxations are applicable for OBC-NCL (up to 3 years), SC/ST (up to 5 years), and PwBD candidates.
- Experience Restrictions: Candidates who have completed five years in the relevant discipline after acquiring the prescribed qualification, or possess higher professional qualifications (B.E., MBA, MCA, etc.), or have one year or more of job experience after acquiring a Diploma or Vocational Certificate, are not eligible.
- Single Application: Candidates can apply for only one discipline code. Applying for multiple codes will lead to the rejection of all applications.
Selection Process: Merit-Based Approach
IOCL’s selection process for apprentices is designed to be straightforward and merit-driven. There is no written test or interview involved. The key stages are:
- Merit List Preparation: A merit list is compiled based on the percentage of marks obtained by candidates in their qualifying examinations (ITI, Diploma, or Graduation, as applicable).
- Tie-Breaking: In case of a tie in marks, preference is given to candidates with an earlier date of birth. If the date of birth is also the same, marks in the matriculation examination are considered.
- Preference for First-Timers: Candidates applying for apprenticeship training for the first time may be given preference.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification. Original documents must be presented along with self-attested copies.
- Medical Fitness: Candidates must be declared medically fit as per IOCL’s pre-engagement medical standards.
- Offer of Engagement: Successful candidates who clear document verification and the medical test will receive an offer of engagement.
How to Apply: Step-by-Step Guide
The application process involves two main steps and requires careful attention to detail:
- Online Registration: Candidates must first register on either the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) for ITI/Data Entry Operator posts or the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portal (nats.education.gov.in) for Technician/Graduate Apprentice posts. Ensure your profile is 100% complete and accurate.
- Application on Portal: Log in to the respective NATS/NAPS portal and apply for the IOCL opportunity using the provided Establishment IDs.
- Microsoft Office Form Submission: After applying on the NAPS/NATS portal, candidates must also submit their details, preferred state, and three preferred locations via a specific Microsoft Office Form: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/pw7D2cUK7c.
- Deadlines: Both the NAPS/NATS application and the Microsoft Office Form submission must be completed by the last date, September 06, 2026, 5:00 PM.
- Important Note: Only one response to the Microsoft Form is allowed. Applying for more than one discipline code will lead to disqualification.
