The Community You Will Join: CRM Engineering

The CRM Engineering team at Airbnb is at the forefront of building world-class tools that fuel growth and cultivate meaningful relationships between Airbnb and its diverse community. This includes engaging with Hosts, Guests, Law Enforcement, Government Regulators, and Local Community Leaders. The team tackles some of the most complex and unique challenges faced by the business, developing innovative solutions across several key platforms:

• Growth Platform: Designed to increase the supply of available listings and retain existing hosts, driving business expansion.
• Policy Platform: Enables Airbnb to effectively engage with regulatory bodies globally regarding short-term rental regulations. This platform tracks regulations impacting the business and provides critical intelligence to address unique challenges.
• Community Platform: Establishes a social infrastructure to drive community enablement, collaboration, and success among hosts and guests.
• Agent Tools: Empowers customer support agents with the necessary tools to understand and resolve complex issues that customers cannot address independently.
• Aircover Claims Platform: Facilitates the seamless processing of claims for Aircover insurance products, ensuring protection for both hosts and guests.

Your Role: Engineering Manager, Tech Foundations

As an Engineering Manager, you will be instrumental in leading and nurturing a high-performing team of engineers. Your role will involve fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and craftsmanship while architecting and building scalable, reliable, and impactful systems that are fundamental to Airbnb’s growth trajectory. Our team is particularly focused on developing an AI-driven growth platform to power Airbnb’s supply expansion. This involves leveraging AI-driven intelligence to generate sales insights, address diverse supply needs, empower existing hosts, and attract high-quality new hosts to the platform.

You will collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, designers, business strategists, and other cross-functional teams to define the team’s long-term technical vision, strategy, and roadmap. You will represent your team effectively with global leadership, drive operational excellence, and guide the development of innovative AI-powered solutions that tackle complex business challenges. A Typical Day in This Role

• Technical Leadership: Define and execute the technical strategy for key initiatives, ensuring alignment with Airbnb’s overarching goals.
• Team Management: Hire, mentor, and lead a talented engineering team. Cultivate an environment of innovation, continuous improvement, and psychological safety.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with product managers, data scientists, and partner engineering teams to develop effective, scalable, and user-centric solutions.
• Project Oversight: Lead end-to-end project execution, ensuring high-quality delivery throughout the software development lifecycle, from conception to launch and maintenance.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Provide clear, concise communication of project status, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and key partners.
• Operational Excellence: Champion best practices for system reliability, scalability, and incident response. Maintain high standards of operational readiness for critical systems.
• Industry Awareness: Stay abreast of the latest trends in relevant technology fields (e.g., AI/ML, platform engineering) and drive the adoption of best practices and innovations within the team.
• Global Alignment: Collaborate with global counterparts to ensure the India team’s initiatives are strategically aligned with broader company objectives.

Your Expertise and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• A minimum of 10 years of professional industry experience, including 2–5 years in a formal engineering management role.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale, secure, and reliable systems.
• Strong experience in defining technical strategy and building scalable engineering, data, or machine learning systems.
• Expertise in leading AI/ML teams and delivering AI-powered solutions is a significant advantage.
• Proficiency in at least one major programming language such as Java, Python, Go, or Ruby.
• Demonstrated ability to attract, hire, and retain top-tier engineering talent.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively bridging technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in setting multi-year strategies and aligning diverse stakeholders towards common goals.
• Background working in fast-paced, agile environments with cross-functional teams.
