The Difference You Will Make: Senior iOS Engineer Role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the iOS team within Passport & Commerce, you will play a pivotal role in developing the iOS experiences that power various account features for millions of guests and hosts. You will take ownership of complex features from technical design through to launch, working collaboratively with backend, Android, and design counterparts. Your contributions will be key to shipping reliable, performant iOS experiences that achieve parity with Android and web surfaces. You will also help establish best practices and become a trusted technical voice for iOS within the organization as the team grows.
A Typical Day in This Role
- Feature Development: Design and build new iOS features using modern, declarative UI (e.g., SwiftUI) and unidirectional state architecture.
- Product Collaboration: Partner closely with product and design teams to translate new concepts into polished, accessible iOS experiences.
- Cross-Platform Alignment: Collaborate with backend, Android, and web engineers to ensure feature behavior and data consistency across all platforms.
- Code Quality: Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code, actively participating in code and design reviews.
- Mentorship: Mentor other engineers on the team and contribute to raising the standard of iOS engineering practices.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve performance and reliability issues affecting the iOS application.
Your Expertise and Qualifications
- Professional Experience: 6+ years of professional iOS engineering experience, including shipping and maintaining features in a large-scale, production consumer app.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Swift and modern iOS architecture, including declarative UI (SwiftUI), unidirectional state management (MVI/MVVM/Redux-style), and dependency injection.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience partnering closely with backend and other platform engineers to shape APIs and maintain cross-platform consistency.
- End-to-End Ownership: A track record of owning complex features from technical design through launch and iteration.
- Leadership: Experience mentoring other engineers and contributing to team-level technical decisions.
- Adaptability: Comfort operating with ambiguity, especially on a newly formed team establishing new iOS surfaces.
- Mobile Best Practices: Solid understanding of mobile app performance, accessibility, and release/CI practices for large-scale consumer apps.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Location and Work Environment
This position is US – Remote Eligible. While remote, you must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required, as agreed upon with your manager.
