As a key member of the Trust Engineering team, you will collaborate with a group of highly skilled software engineers. Together, you will architect and build intuitive and delightful user experiences, fortify our existing trust mechanisms, and develop innovative new products designed to strengthen our defenses against evolving threats. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction and delivering flexible, efficient, and scalable solutions. This is essential to stay ahead of the ever-changing landscape of attack vectors and to solidify Airbnb’s position as the most secure and trusted community globally. Numerous complex and unsolved problems exist in both online and offline risk management, and we are actively seeking talented engineers to join us in tackling these challenges head-on.
A Typical Day:
Your contributions will be diverse and impactful:
- Engage with large-scale structured and unstructured data to build, refine, and continuously improve novel Machine Learning (ML) systems.
- Develop product integrations and optimize performance for Airbnb’s product, business, and operational use cases.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including software engineers, product managers, operations teams, and data scientists.
- Identify opportunities for significant business impact, understand, refine, and prioritize requirements for AI/ML models.
- Drive key engineering decisions and quantify the impact of your work.
- Work hand-in-hand with other trust defense and platform teams to address the dynamic nature of fraud attacks.
- Hands-on experience in productionizing and operating AI/ML solutions and pipelines at scale, catering to both batch and real-time use cases.
- Lead, mentor, challenge, and foster a collaborative and enthusiastic AI/ML culture within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
- Build and continuously improve novel ML systems using large-scale structured and unstructured data.
- Develop product integrations and optimize performance for various Airbnb use cases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, and operations.
- Identify business impact opportunities and refine requirements for AI/ML models.

Requirements & Qualifications
- 7+ years of industry experience in backend/platform engineering or equivalent.
- BE/B.tech in Computer Science or equivalent qualification.
- Strong programming skills in Python/Java or equivalent.
- Solid data engineering foundations.
- Understanding of ML best practices (e.g., training/serving skew minimization, A/B testing, feature engineering).
- Knowledge of ML algorithms (e.g., gradient boosted trees, neural networks, deep learning, optimization).
- Familiarity with ML domains like NLP, computer vision, personalization, anomaly detection.
- Experience with 3 or more technologies: Tensorflow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Spark, Airflow/Kubeflow, Kafka/Spark/Ray, Hive.
- Experience building observability for AI systems (metrics, logging, traces) with automated alerting and SLO management.
- Experience building end-to-end Machine Learning infrastructure and/or productionizing ML models is a plus.
- Must have experience working in large tech product companies solving real-world problems.
- Exposure to architectural patterns of large, high-scale software applications.
- Experience with test-driven development, A/B testing, and incremental delivery.
- Experience with the Trust and Risk domain is a plus.
