The Integrations & Application Engineering Team

The Integrations & Application Engineering team at Airbnb owns the integration and automation platforms. We empower teams across the company to self-serve in connecting their systems and automating solutions. We also handle the end-to-end integration of Airbnb’s enterprise systems, building and managing custom in-house solutions and the application infrastructure that supports them.

Role Overview: Tech Lead Manager, Oracle ERP

This is a hybrid Individual Contributor (IC) and people-leadership role specifically focused on Finance integrations and automations. As a Tech Lead Manager, you will be responsible for leading and growing a team of talented engineers while also contributing hands-on at a senior IC level. This includes setting technical direction, owning delivery, and actively participating in coding and code reviews. We are seeking an individual with deep ERP product knowledge, experience building integrations in general-purpose languages, a strong sense of ownership for both systems and people, and enthusiasm for applying AI, building tools, and leveraging technologies like Claude Code to enhance team capabilities.

A Typical Day at Airbnb

• Lead the Finance and ERP integration practice: Set strategic direction, manage parallel initiatives, and take full ownership of the systems and processes supported by your team.
• Balance management with hands-on work: Unblock your team, conduct thorough design and code reviews, and personally build complex integrations, backend services, APIs, and MCPs.
• Partner with stakeholders: Collaborate closely with Finance, Procurement, and other cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective integrations, automations, and reporting solutions.
• Coach and develop engineers: Mentor and grow engineers and contractors through constructive design reviews, insightful architecture discussions, and dedicated career development support.
• Ensure operational excellence: Own the smooth operation of month-end financial integrations and reporting, proactively identifying and resolving any gaps or issues.
• Explore and innovate with GenAI: Stay abreast of the evolving Generative AI landscape, evaluate new models and techniques, and share valuable learnings with the team and organization.

Your Expertise and Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Lead a team of engineers, encompassing hiring, mentoring, and career development, while simultaneously contributing at a Staff IC level.
• Technical Ownership: Own the architecture, delivery, and reliability of ERP and Finance integrations and microservices, primarily using Java or Python.
• Platform Migration and Extension: Drive the migration of existing integrations from Oracle Cloud onto Airbnb’s in-house platform and extend this platform to enable self-service capabilities for teams across the company.
• AI-Powered Solutions: Design and build AI-assisted automations and MCP integrations that significantly enhance the capabilities of our internal platforms.
• Strategic Contribution: Contribute to key organizational priorities and play a role in defining the team’s roadmap and overall strategy.
• Quality and Reliability: Uphold the highest standards of quality, reliability, and security through rigorous code reviews, comprehensive testing, proactive monitoring, and effective incident response.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of comprehensive software engineering experience, including a proven track record of building and operating production systems and integrations.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineers, either as a manager or tech lead, coupled with a genuine passion for fostering the careers of others.
• Strong and deep ERP product knowledge, preferably Oracle Cloud ERP or a comparable system, including key Finance modules like R2R, P2P, AP, and AR.
• High proficiency in general-purpose programming languages such as Java or Python, with experience in building microservices, APIs, and integrations from the ground up.
• Practical experience using Artificial Intelligence in the development lifecycle to ship products from prototype to production, including familiarity with LLMs, prompt engineering, and RAG.
• Solid understanding and proficiency with relational databases and SQL.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively across different functions and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) and OCI/PaaS, along with Oracle reporting tools.
• Experience building AI agents and MCPs, with a preference for experience using Claude.
