Discord is seeking a highly driven, goal-oriented, and growth-minded Engineering Manager to lead its Core Product Engagement team. This pivotal role involves shaping the future of Discord by building key features that enhance user experience and foster connections. You will lead a team of full-stack engineers, collaborating closely with Product, Design, Data Science, UX Research, and Marketing partners to drive the team’s vision and roadmap.

As a leader within a small and mighty team, you will have significant ownership over the core experiences that define Discord. Your responsibilities will include making sound first-principle decisions regarding resourcing, clearly communicating the rationale to stakeholders, and partnering with your organizational leader on strategic planning. You will also play a crucial role in improving the broader Engineering organization and upholding Discord’s workplace philosophy. A high bar for the quality of features and the ability to drive product decisions with company goals in mind are essential.

We are looking for individuals who can leverage their technical expertise to move fast, make informed trade-offs, and ensure their team delivers high-quality results. The ideal candidate is a current Discord user who understands the platform’s core features and user flows. You should possess at least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer, with a proven track record of working across the full stack (mobile, web, backend) to build user experiences. Furthermore, you need a minimum of 2 years of experience in an Engineering Manager role, leading teams of 5 or more engineers in developing user-facing products.

A strong product sense and a genuine pride in understanding customers are vital. You should have experience working within product teams that have clear metrics goals and demonstrate a highly goal-oriented approach, always striving for success. A key aspect of this role is motivating and helping team members succeed, with demonstrable experience in growing engineers. We seek leaders who are excited to get hands-on; while management is primary, leaders should be comfortable jumping into code, brainstorming technical solutions, and making direct contributions to enhance our product.

Bonus points are awarded for experience with social or messaging consumer products, and for familiarity with React Native. This position is US-based and offers remote flexibility, though candidates in the Bay Area are welcome to utilize our San Francisco office. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000 to $310,000, in addition to equity and comprehensive benefits.
