Frequently Asked Questions
Introduction to IOB Apprentice Exam 2026
The Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) Apprentice Exam is a competitive online assessment designed to select eligible graduates for a one-year apprenticeship contract. To succeed in this exam, candidates must understand the structure of the online test and prepare systematically across all four core sections: General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative and Reasoning Aptitude, and Computer or Subject Knowledge.
Syllabus Breakdown
Understanding the syllabus is the first step toward effective preparation. Here is a detailed breakdown of the topics you need to focus on:
- General/Financial Awareness: Focus on current affairs (last 6 months), banking terminology, history of Indian banking, RBI functions, monetary policies, government schemes, and basic economic concepts.
- General English: Prepare for reading comprehension, error detection, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, cloze tests, and sentence rearrangement.
- Quantitative and Reasoning Aptitude: Practice simplification, data interpretation, number series, arithmetic topics (percentage, profit & loss, simple & compound interest, ratio & proportion, time & work), and reasoning topics like puzzles, seating arrangement, syllogism, coding-decoding, and blood relations.
- Computer or Subject Knowledge: Study computer hardware, software, operating systems, MS Office suite, internet and networking basics, cybersecurity, and basic banking technology.
Exam Day Strategy & Tips
Since the exam is conducted online using your own front camera-enabled device (desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone), ensure you have a stable internet connection and a quiet environment. Practice with mock tests on similar devices to get comfortable with the interface. Time management is crucial, as you have 90 minutes to solve 100 questions. Allocate your time wisely across sections, starting with your strongest areas to build confidence.
Local Language Proficiency
Do not ignore the local language test. Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the local language of the state they apply for. If you did not study the local language in 10th or 12th standard, you will have to clear a separate proficiency test during document verification. Daily reading of local newspapers and practicing writing can help you clear this stage easily.
