Role Overview and Core Mission

The Metrology Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, compliance, and operational readiness of both regulated and non-regulated laboratory equipment. In a highly regulated pharmaceutical development environment, the accuracy of analytical instruments is paramount. This role oversees the entire lifecycle of laboratory instrumentation, which spans from the initial acquisition and installation to routine maintenance, computer system validation (CSV), and eventual retirement of regulated systems. By maintaining these systems to the highest standards, you directly support the discovery and development of novel, life-saving therapies.

Key Lifecycle Responsibilities

Your daily activities will involve a blend of hands-on technical troubleshooting, documentation management, and cross-functional collaboration. Key responsibilities include:

  • Documentation & Compliance: Preparing, reviewing, and approving critical instrument documentation, including master equipment lists, qualification protocols, and calibration records to ensure audit readiness.

  • Technical Troubleshooting: Developing a deep working knowledge of complex laboratory equipment to perform routine maintenance, calibration, and rapid troubleshooting.
  • Computer System Validation (CSV): Participating in validation activities for standalone computer systems and software upgrades associated with laboratory instrumentation.
  • Quality Assurance: Originating and progressing Notice of Event (NOE) and Change Management (CM) records, performing thorough investigations, and implementing Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) plans.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements & Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within a regulated (GMP) laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment (HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, etc.).
  • Familiarity with standalone computer system GMP validation requirements.
  • Highly organized and capable of multitasking to manage laboratory equipment schedules and documents.
  • Capable of working independently under moderate supervision.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with authoring relevant instrument standard operating procedures (SOPs).
