Syllabus and Exam Structure
The SBI Bank Medical Officer (BMO-II) online written examination is divided into two major parts: General Aptitude and Professional Knowledge. The General Aptitude section consists of Reasoning (15 questions), Quantitative Aptitude (15 questions), and English Language (20 questions). This section is qualifying in nature, meaning candidates only need to secure minimum qualifying marks to pass. The core merit is determined by the Professional Knowledge section, which contains 50 questions carrying 100 marks. Candidates must focus heavily on the Professional Knowledge syllabus, which covers standard MBBS curriculum subjects, clinical medicine, pharmacology, preventive and social medicine, and general healthcare guidelines.
Preparation Tips for Professional Knowledge
Since the Professional Knowledge section carries 100% weightage for shortlisting, candidates should systematically revise key medical topics. Focus on the following areas:
- General Medicine: Common infectious diseases, cardiovascular disorders, respiratory illnesses, gastrointestinal issues, and emergency medical care.
- Pharmacology: Essential drug classifications, indications, contraindications, and drug interactions.
- Preventive and Social Medicine: National health programs, immunization schedules, occupational health hazards, and basic epidemiology.
- Medical Ethics & Legalities: Patient confidentiality, medical negligence laws, and standard operating procedures for clinical practice.
Aptitude and English Strategy
Although the Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and English sections are qualifying, candidates must not ignore them. Practice basic arithmetic, data interpretation, logical reasoning puzzles, and English grammar/comprehension. Solving previous years’ bank specialist officer papers can help candidates manage time effectively, as they will have a combined 45 minutes to complete these three sections.
Interview Preparation
The interview carries 100 marks and plays a critical role in final selection. Candidates should prepare to answer questions regarding their clinical experience, handling medical emergencies in a corporate/banking environment, occupational health challenges, and basic banking awareness related to medical benefits for employees. Demonstrating strong communication skills, empathy, and decision-making capabilities is vital to scoring well in the interview stage.
