Stripe is seeking a dynamic and analytical Credit Risk Operations Associate to join its brand-new Stripe Delivery Centers. This role is critical in ensuring a healthy financial ecosystem for businesses globally. You will directly impact the company’s bottom line and growth capabilities by supporting new and emerging businesses. The Credit Operations team is responsible for conducting credit risk assessments, underwriting small and mid-size users, and proposing mitigation strategies that enable Stripe to take smart risks for our users.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
As a Credit Risk Operations Associate, you will be responsible for a wide array of critical tasks aimed at identifying, assessing, and mitigating credit risks across Stripe’s diverse merchant portfolio. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Merchant Evaluation: Collaborating with a wide range of merchants, from high-growth venture-backed startups to well-established traditional institutions, to evaluate their business models, operational viability, and financial health.
- Financial Statement Analysis: Reviewing and analyzing complex financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow forecasts to assess creditworthiness and identify potential red flags.
- Portfolio Risk Management: Developing a deep, localized understanding of credit risk across various industries, geographies, and operating models to effectively manage Stripe’s overall risk exposure.
- Loss Mitigation: Identifying unique risks associated with complex or non-traditional business models and enforcing appropriate loss mitigation actions, such as reserves, collateral, or transaction limits, based on your professional assessment.
- Data-Driven Strategy: Utilizing advanced data analytics to optimize risk mitigation strategies and ensure they are consistently and effectively enforced across Stripe’s global portfolio.
- Risk Reporting: Identifying emerging risk factors, industry trends, and systemic vulnerabilities, and reporting these findings to the broader risk and leadership teams to maintain operational alignment.
- Process Improvement: Actively identifying gaps in current risk systems, policies, and operational workflows, and recommending actionable enhancements to drive continuous process improvement.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering closely with global operations specialists, product managers, and business process owners to execute critical workflows and build a cohesive risk management culture.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is someone who possesses a strong analytical mindset, a passion for financial markets, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You should be comfortable working with complex datasets and translating financial numbers into a clear, cohesive narrative that highlights potential risks and opportunities. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will be interacting with internal stakeholders and external partners globally. A process-oriented mindset, humility, and a proven track record of collaborative teamwork are key to succeeding in this role.
Work Environment and Expectations
This role is based out of Stripe’s state-of-the-art Delivery Centers. Stripe strongly values in-person collaboration and learning, which is why SDC roles in locations like Bengaluru (India), Mexico City (Mexico), and Dublin (Ireland) operate under a 100% in-office model. This setup ensures that team members can collaborate seamlessly, share insights in real-time, and build a strong operational culture from the ground up.
