Program Manager, Performance and Talent Planning
Job Overview
About Stripe:
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform empowering millions of businesses worldwide, from global enterprises to ambitious startups, to accept payments, drive revenue growth, and unlock new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, offering a unique opportunity to shape the global economy while undertaking significant career achievements.
About the Team:
The Performance and Talent Planning team is a vital part of Stripe’s Talent and Development organization. We are dedicated to fostering employee growth and enabling individuals to perform at their best. Our work involves creating programs, systems, and insights that assist managers in building strong teams, support leaders in future planning, and provide employees with clear pathways for career advancement. Our scope includes performance management, talent planning, career development, succession planning, and organizational insights, all aimed at making Stripe a place where talented individuals can build long-lasting careers and make a significant impact.
What You’ll Do:
In this critical role, you will translate Stripe’s performance and talent philosophy into scalable, global experiences. You will collaborate closely with People Products, People Insights, Employee Relations, People Partners, and other key stakeholders to design programs and systems that are intuitive for users, operationally robust, and aligned with Stripe’s future strategic needs. You will adopt a product-centric approach, starting with data-driven problem statements, leveraging qualitative and quantitative signals, understanding the end-to-end user experience, employing an iterative design process, and maintaining an obsession with continuous improvement. You must be comfortable operating across different time zones, navigating diverse perspectives, managing incomplete information, and prioritizing urgent tasks effectively.
A Day in the Life:
Your day might begin by reviewing your agenda in Slack or using an AI agent to summarize ongoing work and priorities. You’ll engage in workstream meetings spanning People Products, Manager Enablement, and M&A Transitions, reviewing updates from global teammates. Feedback from colleagues in Dublin might advance a launch plan, while questions from Melbourne could highlight integration challenges with existing reporting capabilities for annual talent planning. These challenges are precisely what you thrive on, pushing you to build with a user-first mindset, anticipate downstream effects, and mitigate risks proactively. You’ll draw on cross-organizational expertise while balancing global perspectives, designing seamless end-to-end experiences, and coordinating efforts across interconnected teams. Identifying new connections, you’ll quickly bring in relevant stakeholders for the next phase of a program. As the day unfolds, updates from cross-functional partners show progress, but a critical area might stall. You’ll escalate immediately to maintain momentum and de-risk the program timeline. You’ll end the day energized by the work’s complexity, the collaborative spirit of your colleagues, and the continuous opportunity to build, solve, and innovate.
Responsibilities:
- Drive and scale Stripe’s performance philosophy and practices. Design and improve performance experiences that help employees understand expectations, grow through feedback, and make meaningful contributions.
- Evolve performance and talent tooling. Partner with People Products and cross-functional stakeholders to translate program needs into scalable systems, processes, and user journeys.
- Strengthen career growth and talent investment. Help shape the programs, mechanisms, and insights that enable career development, talent planning, succession, and thoughtful investment in Stripe’s people as the company grows.
- Lead complex, cross-functional workstreams. Build alignment among global stakeholders; surface risks and dependencies early; make progress in ambiguous environments; and unblock critical decisions quickly.
- Use insights to improve outcomes. Define clear problem statements, gather qualitative and quantitative data, and use those insights to refine strategy, programs, and execution.
Who You Are:
You are a systems thinker capable of connecting program or product details to the broader organizational context. You are energized by ambiguity and complexity, adept at bringing structure, clarity, and strong momentum to your work. You build trusted relationships, communicate directly and thoughtfully, and establish accountability across teams with speed.
Minimum Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience building and scaling global People or HR experiences, with expertise in both process and product/systems design.
- Proven experience leading complex programs in fast-paced, ambiguous environments requiring high ownership and cross-functional problem-solving.
- Strong systems thinking: the ability to understand the interplay of people, processes, tools, policies, and organizational decisions, and how to augment workflows using AI tools.
- Demonstrated ability to build enduring, trusted stakeholder relationships; communicate effectively across levels and functions; and establish clear decision-making and accountability mechanisms.
- A disciplined approach to problem-solving, starting with the ‘why,’ defining problem statements with quantitative and qualitative data, and continuously questioning the relevance and timing of the problem.
- High agency and sound judgment: ability to identify opportunities or risks, take swift action, and escalate thoughtfully when progress is blocked.
- Deep alignment with Stripe’s Operating Principle, ‘Obsess over Talent,’ believing that people are a key driver of success.
- Curiosity and humility: a continuous learner who seeks understanding before acting, welcomes diverse ideas, and adapts course based on new evidence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience across a diverse portfolio of People programs: talent management, organizational development, leadership/executive development, program and talent operations, and compensation and benefits.
- Experience in People product design and management within high-growth environments characterized by fast iterative cycles, shifting priorities, and a steady stream of feature requests.
- Excellence in leading executive-level talent discussions that influence People strategy, demonstrating humility, curiosity, and a grounded presence.
Working Remotely at Stripe:
A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from any of our offices. While office visits for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events are possible, the expectation is regular work from home. Stripe does not cover relocation costs to a remote location. We encourage applications for roles matching your current or planned living location.
Pay and Benefits:
The annual US base salary range for this role is $129,400 – $194,200. For sales roles, this range represents On Target Earnings (OTE), including base salary and target commissions/bonuses. This range may encompass multiple career levels and will be refined during the interview process based on factors like experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants outside the US can request their location’s salary range during the interview process. Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus/sales commissions, a 401(k) plan, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn’t perfectly align with every detail in the job description.
