Preparation Strategy for UP Home Guard Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

With the release of the UP Home Guard Result 2026, shortlisted candidates must immediately shift their focus to the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST). The written exam was only the first hurdle; the physical tests are qualifying in nature but highly demanding. To secure a spot in the final merit list, candidates must meet the rigorous physical standards set by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB).

The Physical Efficiency Test primarily evaluates the running capability and cardiovascular endurance of the candidates. Since the running distances are substantial, systematic training is essential to avoid injuries and build the required stamina.

Running Standards and Training Tips

The running requirements differ for male and female candidates, and understanding these benchmarks is crucial for planning your daily workouts:

• Male Candidates: Must complete a 4.8 km run within 28 minutes. This requires a consistent pace of approximately 5 minutes and 48 seconds per kilometer.
• Female Candidates: Must complete a 2.4 km run within 16 minutes. This requires maintaining a pace of 6 minutes and 40 seconds per kilometer.

To achieve these timings, candidates should follow a structured running routine:

• Gradual Progression: Do not attempt to run the full distance on day one. Start with shorter distances (e.g., 1.5 km to 2 km for males) at an easy pace and gradually increase the distance by 10% each week.
• Interval Training: Incorporate high-intensity interval training (HIIT) once or twice a week. Run fast for 400 meters, followed by 200 meters of slow jogging or walking. This builds aerobic capacity and speed.
• Stamina and Endurance: Dedicate one day a week to a ‘long slow run’ where you run further than the exam distance (e.g., 6 km for males, 3.5 km for females) at a comfortable, conversational pace. This builds mental toughness and muscular endurance.
• Proper Warm-up and Cool-down: Always spend 10 minutes stretching and warming up before running to prevent muscle pulls. Follow up with static stretching after the run to aid recovery.

Physical Standard Test (PST) Requirements

The Physical Standard Test involves the measurement of height, chest, and weight. Candidates must meet the minimum criteria to avoid disqualification:

• Height (Male): General/OBC/SC candidates require a minimum height of 168 cm, while ST candidates require 160 cm.
• Height (Female): General/OBC/SC candidates require a minimum height of 152 cm, while ST candidates require 147 cm.
• Chest Measurement (Male): General/OBC/SC candidates require 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded (minimum 5 cm expansion). ST candidates require 77 cm unexpanded and 82 cm expanded.
• Weight (Female): A minimum weight of 40 kg is mandatory for all female candidates.

Document Verification (DV) Preparation

Alongside the physical tests, candidates will undergo Document Verification. Any discrepancy in your documents can lead to instant disqualification. Ensure you have the following documents organized in a secure folder:

• Printout of the UP Home Guard Scorecard 2026 and Admit Card.
• Class 10th (High School) Marksheet and Certificate as proof of age and educational qualification.
• Domicile Certificate of Uttar Pradesh to claim reservation benefits.
• Caste Certificate (OBC/SC/ST) issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format.
• Character Certificate from the last attended institution or a gazetted officer.
• Valid Photo Identity Proof (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving License).
• At least 6-8 recent passport-size photographs matching the one uploaded in the application form.
