Frequently Asked Questions
Overview of VSSC Apprentice Selection Process
The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), a premier space research centre of ISRO under the Department of Space, recruits Apprentice Trainees on a merit basis through an offline walk-in drive. Unlike competitive written exams, selection for VSSC Apprenticeship relies entirely on candidate qualifications, marks scored in qualifying examinations, and document accuracy. Therefore, preparation for this drive focuses heavily on document readiness, eligibility compliance, and accurate information presentation.
Key Eligibility and Weightage Insights
Candidates must carefully check all eligibility requirements before attending the drive on 25 July 2026 at Thiruvananthapuram. Priority consideration is granted to candidates who completed their engineering degrees or diplomas from institutions located within the Southern Region of BoAT (covering Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Puducherry). Outstation candidates from other regions will only be considered if vacancies remain unfilled within a specific discipline.
- Academic Merit Weightage: Marks secured in the core qualifying degree or diploma (CGPA or total aggregate percentage) directly determine your position in the merit panel.
- CGPA Conversion Rule: VSSC explicitly strictly forbids using CGPA-to-percentage conversion formulas if it is not printed on the official transcript. At least one criterion (either CGPA or Percentage as stated on the certificate) must independently fulfill the published eligibility cutoff.
- 5-Year Window Limit: Candidates who completed their degree/diploma more than 5 years prior to joining or before April 2022 are disqualified automatically.
Document Verification Checklist & Preparation Tips
Since the selection process begins with on-the-spot document scrutiny, missing or invalid certificates will lead to immediate rejection before you can submit an application form.
- Ensure all original marksheets, degree/diploma certificates, and government-issued ID proofs are organized systematically in a folder.
- Bring at least two sets of clear, self-attested photocopies of all relevant documents.
- OBC candidates must carry a valid Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate issued in the Central Government format by a Tahsildar. State-level OBC certificates without NCL declaration will not be accepted.
- EWS candidates must possess a valid Income & Asset Certificate for the current financial year (2026-27).
- Arrive early at the venue (Karthika Thirunal Govt V&GHSS for Girls, Manacaud, Thiruvananthapuram) before 9:30 AM to avoid rush and facilitate timely document scrutiny.
Post-Selection Registration Steps
Once shortlisted on the merit list, candidates will need to register on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS 2.0) portal at www.nats.education.gov.in to formalize their apprenticeship contract with VSSC ISRO for the one-year training duration.
